The Start of our ‘Banking for a Greener Future’ journey

Many of us feel individually passionate about ESG. There is a lot of interest in helping with the environmental crisis, from being a responsible citizen within the community to the wider level of recycling.  Trusted Novus Bank (TNB) being a values led and driven business is always striving to do the right thing.

This month TNB are re-launching our company values.  We began revisiting our values in a workshop on a Saturday in May. Here we listened to our employees to collect their input as to what they think our corporate values should represent, both for employees for our customers and wider community.

Heavily intertwined with our new values is the implementation of an ambitious ESG journey to a greener future.  We have a value-based conduct which reflects our culture and sets our foundations. We want to be transparent with our responsibilities, resilient and united with our actions where our aim will be to create a sustainable, tailored, and driven strategy which goes beyond the ‘E’ within ESG.

We take our responsibility seriously and want to continue being involved in our community by supporting its needs and leading on these matters.  We want to influence and encourage our clients and suppliers to join us in this journey.  We are also realising that there is a lot to understand and we are very much on a learning curve.

Some of the things we are passionate about doing as part of our ESG approach are:

Environment

In respect of the environment, we are putting in place measures within the bank to make improvements to reduce our CO2 emissions and have set some ambitious targets with this goal in mind.

Social

We support our staff with one of our aims being to be the best working place in Gibraltar. We value inclusivity and diversity, and we treat people with dignity and respect.  We empower our colleagues to make appropriate decisions and we work with value-based conduct and leadership. We are also exploring green banking products which we understand we need locally.

Governance

A key step in our journey is to publish our first ESG report in 2024.This aims to assist our stakeholders in understanding our journey, well in advance of when it becomes a legal requirement for banks.

We will be keeping  you updated on our progress.  In the meantime please feel free to engage with us on our various initiatives. We aren’t just making  corporate promises but as a community bank we are putting our energy and focus in different initiatives to help improve our community.
