Green is the new Black

At TNB we have set ourselves an ambitious mission to target over the next few years this is to be the green bank of choice.

Our strong values in terms of sustainability, transparency, and equality (among the other values) are closely related to ESG. For that reason, TNB wants to strengthen efforts in all three areas; environmental, social and governance, beyond what we are expected to deliver as a local bank.To be successful, we need a strong commitment and dedication in the Bank.

The UN principles are the most far reaching and broad and is what most organisations aspire to. Our ultimate goal is to meet the UN Principles. However, it is hard to make them relevant for us at this stage of our development on ESG, hence we need to consider these for the 10-to-30-year plan.

Our vision is that TNB will become a leading corporate citizen in respect of ESG. We believe strong (and ambitious) focus on ESG will create sustainable value in the longer run not only for our shareholder but also for our customers, our employees, and the local community as a whole.

When determining the focus for the first few years of this plan we split this into two areas:

  • Areas that we need to improve by building on existing approach to meet international standards and good practice. Consider what we need to document to be able to disclose information on how we are meeting these requirements.

  • Areas we need to initiate for example setting our CO2 targets and creating green products.

The reason for this is because we have lived by our values for a long time and in doing so we have always strived to be the employer of choice we also continue to develop how we can best support the community.

We are clear that we are initiating our ESG journey and we need to learn more about the environmental impact and how we can effectively implement initiatives that have an impact.  This is an interesting but also a complicated area to learn more about.  We have reached out to some local stakeholders to help us in this journey.  You can follow our journey on our website and social medial pages.
