Creating a Culture of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) for Enhanced Wellbeing in our Value-Based Organization

"At TNB, we don't just talk about equality and diversity – this is applied in our organisation.

We're not content with merely being a fair employer; we're champions of inclusivity ensuring employees feel they belong. We embrace ideas, skills, and experiences that our colleagues bring to the table. But we don't stop there. We provide the support needed for our colleagues not just to survive, but to thrive."

Yvette McElwee, Human Resources Manager.

Under the Equality Act, we have a legal duty to have appropriate practices with regards to the need to promote equality of opportunity, eliminate unlawful discrimination and foster good relations between key equality strands. However, our aim is not only to ensure we meet our legal requirements, but more so to guarantee that this offers our employees both existing and the attracted candidates, that sense of belonging, through a positive experience of feeling valued, heard, supported, and included.

Our commitment to DE&I is embedded in every aspect of our organisation. In our recruitment and selection process, we carefully create job specifications that are free from bias and promote inclusivity, guaranteeing an equal opportunity for all candidates to excel. Our dedication extends to learning and development, where we organise comprehensive training sessions on DE&I awareness, unconscious bias, cultural competency, and inclusive leadership for all employees. We also invest in fostering inclusive work environments treating all employees regardless of title or seniority.

Our commitment is further exemplified through our data collection and analysis efforts, where we meticulously gather and examine workforce demographic data to identify diversity trends and ensure continuous improvement. We analyse performance evaluations, and we actively seek employee feedback. This approach empowers us to make informed decisions that strengthen our commitment to diversity and inclusion.

In tandem, we have a new comprehensive well-being strategy that aligns seamlessly with our core values. This new initiative underscores our holistic approach to fostering a workplace culture where every individual feels valued, respected, and supported. Our well-being strategy recognises that the physical, emotional, and mental well-being of our employees is intrinsically linked to our ability to create an inclusive and equitable environment. We believe that a thriving, diverse workforce is one that is also nurtured, both personally and professionally.

Through this strategy, we aim to provide resources and support mechanisms that empower our employees to bring their authentic selves to work, thereby enhancing the collective well-being of our organisation. We are committed to fostering an environment where every team member can flourish, contributing their unique perspectives and experiences to our shared success.
